Updated, now Avast 'Web Shield' blocking internet access ?
« on: August 01, 2013, 01:10:14 AM »
Just updated free Avast, last week, and now the 'Web Shield' is blocking internet access.
When 'Stop' web shield, all ok.
Tried some online suggestions with settings etc, but nothing working.
How to fix... reinstall, etc ?

Hello,

go to Control Panel and then to Software. Choose Avast in the list. And click on repair/Uninstall on the right,
choose the last option repair and go through that, maybe this will help, otherwise you can remove it the same way.

Please check if OA blocks some Avast ports. That happened sometimes after update.

Does OA firewall allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

Happened again, and this time it looks like this was the solution...

Hello,
go to Control Panel and then to Software. Choose Avast in the list. And click on repair/Uninstall on the right,
choose the last option repair and go through that, maybe this will help, otherwise you can remove it the same way.

Thanks, guess Id better bookmark this thread !   :)

Maybe it's time to change from OA since it keeps forgetting to ask you to allow avast access. ???

Never been an issue with my installation of Outpost Firewall Pro and avast (on either system) for as long as I have had Outpost and avast (over nine years) and I have been using Outpost even longer than avast.

I can also be the users fault for not allowing avast! access through the firewall after an update.
An updated program is a new program to the firewall and needs to be approved.

Which up to a point is what I'm on about not, OFP forgetting as when setup it generally sits n the background unobtrusively. I have mine setup on rules wizard, which may be a little more chatty than having it set , it can also be set to allow most, where it makes more of the decisions.

I have never had the issue with avast program updates resulting in new processes being blocked or permission being requested.

The element that usually kicks in is the Anti-Leak function for the changed processes and this generally kicks in before you try to connect as it knows a trusted process has changed. Once that is allowed the previously given internet permissions would still be valid.
