FBI Virus!
« on: August 05, 2013, 02:06:36 AM »
I have been using Avast free for years now with good results.  However I have contracted the FBI virus twice in the last month. Avast hasn't even acknowleged any part of the virus. Just wondering if i'm missing something. Anyone else have any issues with the FBI virus?

no Security program have 100% detection....   and New Versions of the virus are released everyday

if you need removal help......

follow guide and attach the requested logs  (not copy and paste)   http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

run in order listed
AdwCleaner / Malwarebytes / OTL / aswMBR

when done removal experts will be notified and check the logs for infections....

if trouble running any of the Tools, try run from safe mode..

Speaking of the FBI....I am sure no AV would have caught that.  If you are using outdated software especially browsers, then no AV can protect you.

http://krebsonsecurity.com/2013/08/firefox-zero-day-used-in-child-porn-hunt/

"“The vulnerability being exploited by this attack was fixed in Firefox 22 and Firefox ESR 17.0.7. The vulnerability used is MFSA 2013-53

People who are on the latest supported versions of Firefox are not at risk.

Although the vulnerability affects users of Firefox 21 and below the exploit targets only ESR-17 users. Since this attack was found on Tor hidden services presumably that is because the Tor Browser Bundle (TBB) is based on Firefox ESR-17. Users running the most recent TBB have all the fixes that were applied to Firefox ESR 17.0.7 and were also not at risk from this attack.”

Your employer should also not be using avast free on work related systems as this is against the licensing rules and regulations.

Avast is on my personal computer that I use for work. Little unnecessary, but thanks for your concern.

I found very "disturbing" fact, that if you need remove some virus you need to use other (than Avast) anti-virus software. That's a strange suggestion. I'm using Avast because I need to remove viruses eventually. If I need to use a third party software to do it, what is the reason for installing Avast? Please do not use argument, that no software is 100% perfect. Suggested third party software is?

This is not your thread to hijack so if you have something you want to discuss open your own topic but if people aren't allowed to argue your opinions with valid answers it will be a lonely topic.

Craigb, That's "constructive criticism". Criticism should help others to "make" their efforts better. It looks like you are exception. Have a nice day.

As it stands at the moment this malware slips by all antivirus programmes.  I have just cleaned some with..  Norton, AVG, McAfee and Kaspersky onboard

I've got nothing against criticism but as mentioned you should have opened your own thread for this discussion rather than dragging this thread off topic.

Its also only constructive criticism if others are able to reply to your critique and it seemed to me you didn't want to hear anything different form your own opinion which would have been Pondus's answer in reply 1.

Seems like essexboy gave you a very valid answer anyway :)

Craigb..."This is not your thread to hijack"....it is not your thread either. About my post, I welcome ANY ideas, just it is nonsense to repeated argument I already heard from Avast about,''you know what? Just don't use it". Or argument like....there is no 100% efficient software" So, what is the point to use third party "not 100% efficient software"?That's what I was talking about.

Hi well hehe the FBI or it depends where you are it could be the OPP has locked your pc until you pay is not a virus it is malware. If you are getting it the best way to stop it is stop using the web page that gives it to you. It does not destroy any files or attach to any files also takes about 5 min to remove that includes the boot time.
