Hi all,
I know this question's been around a few times but I couldn't find any solution in the other threads.
I recently reinstalled Avast to fix the aswrvrt.sys error that seems to have been giving a lot of people system boot issues lately, and now when I try run a definiton update it freezes on 'Initializing, please wait.'
I've tried unistalling Avast with unistall utility in safe mode and then reinstalling it, 3 times, and it hasn't made any difference. I uninstalled version 8 and 7, but couldn't run it for 6 as the program files folder had dissapeared by then (I don't think I ever had version 6 anyway).
Avast is behaving pretty unstably in general, very slow and crashing a bit.
Oh and I had to change the adminstrator access to the C:/windows/installers/ folder to get rid of an error that I was getting when updating Adobe reader. I don't know how or why my administrator rights have changed. Also, avast puts an icon on the desktop upon install but it has no thumbnail, and I have to change the administrator access in Public Desktop in order to delete it.
It may still be something to do with the aswrvrt.sys error mentioned here
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=120531.0 though my computer is starting perfectly every time now.
Any advice is very welcome,
