Hey thank you very much, but I just wanted to know if I should install online armor in safe mode to make sure I don't mess up a bunch of things with my windows firewall.
And is Online Armor a good free firewall?
First rule of thumb is that one cannot run two active firewalls at the same time, just as one cannot run two antivirus programs at the same time. Windows Firewall needs to be disabled, so any specific settings you have there will not apply anymore when you run OA firewall. You will need to reboot after disabling Windows Firewall in order for the disable to take effect. OK to install OA normally after Windows Firewall is disabled.
OA is a good firewall. Suggest creating a password (option is in OA settings) to prevent your settings from being changed from outside. It will be a bit busy on alerts as it goes through the learning curve as it discovers what programs you run on your system, but that will diminish, over time. Just pay attention to what is asking permission and do not allow anything to connect you do not know anything about. Google any such program first before allowing to find out what it is or use this site:
http://systemexplorer.net/file-databaseAll Safe Mode would do is allow you to install OA whilst Windows Firewall is still activated, and you would wind up violating that cardinal rule when you go to the normal desktop mode. Unless you choose Safe Mode with Networking, Windows Firewall will not be running in Safe Mode. You will certainly have problems running two firewalls at the same time.
[Please wait a day or so before using bump as not everyone is following. Please be patient. Help is coming.]
The only exception to this rule I know of is with Avast! Internet Security, which runs their firewall alongside the embedded Windows Firewall. That is because AIS firewall is designed to run with Windows Firewall enabled, the others are not.
