USB Drive not working properly

Whenever I, click on a file (right click or left click) which is located in my USB Drive (SanDisk Cruzer Mini), a message appears asking me to Insert a last Disk. (see attached image).

Now, whenever, I click on OK, the box instantly reappears again and again, as long as I keep on pressing OK. If I press Cancel or the X (close button), explorer.exe crashes instantly and an Error Reporting Message appears telling me to send a dump file to Microsoft. Right after explorer.exe crashes, drwtsn32.exe crashes too. Dr. Watson crashes only happens sometimes though.

The thing about that is, that this only happens when I click on a certain type of file. I receive the message when I click on a .exe (executable) or .zip (archives). I also tested image files and text files, and they don't seem to trigger a message.

Operating System Specifics:
Windows XP Home sp2
Zonealarm Firewall
Avast! Home edition
Connect through dail-up
I would not mind if anyone need more information.

Reformatting the Drive doesn't help anything though. I tried to use chkdsk to check for bad sectors and errors, and everything was fine. I also ran a diagnostic from PC Doctor and is all passed. I also tried the Drive on another computer and the exactly same error happened.

Any ideas what may be causing this? It always had worked before, even with .exe and .zip files. It only started today when I was trying to transfer a Zonealarm .exe update file to another computer via USB Drive.

This message is usally for a multi part compressed file and instead of supplying the last part of the compressed file, your trying to open the first part.

I see what you mean.  :) But the fact is that this had never happened before. I always transfer update setup files (like avast, firefox, zonealarm,etc ) between the two computers (because of dailup, so I want to save time) and I never get this type of error. I wonder if it has to do with the USB drive itself.

It is file related. If it was drive related, then you wouldn't get any message relating to
a file error at all.
The error tells you that the file is being read and that the file has a problem.
In this case, it needs the last file in the compressed chain.

I think I see why the images and text files aren't affected.  ;) But then, I try a couple of executables and zip files and none of them work. I don't believe that all of them are missing a last file in a compressed chain.  ???

Hello everyone, it has been a while, and I'm back. Sorry to bother anyone. this message [see my previous post] is appearing whenever I use an execuable in a floppy disk, too! It is getting really bothersome. Not only does the usb disk and floppy not work on my computer, but my other computer as well. Exactly the same problems.

I tried over 20 executables, all know to be safe, and all of them show that message. I can't access the usb disk or floppy when the message appears, so the only way to go is to terminate explorer.exe. I know bob told me that this is a compressed chain, but I don't believe that ALL of the files (zip or exe or any compressed file) are missing a last file?

Any suggestions? I search all over the net and can't find a single solution. I even contacted San disk support and they told me my USB disk is defective. But if that was the case, wouldn't my floppy drive be defective too? What about my other computer's floppy drive?

Maybe is a usb-port conflict (do you have installed some other devices on the same hub?).
Maybe also a corrupted driver. Try to reinstall the driver of your device.

I did install another device in the same usb hub before. It was a while ago before the driver for my usb disk was instaled. It was working before though, even with another device installed. It only happened recently when the Confirm message keeps on appearing. So, I don't think it is an usb-port conflict, unless I'm wrong of course.

I did what you told me to do. I uninstalled the driver, reinstall it again, and same thing happened.

I only wish I know what's going on. And as I said in previous posts, my floppy disk shows that message too. As a mather of fact, my second computer is acting this way too, with both usb disk and floppy. I wonder if it is just happening to my computers or does someone else have this problem?  ??? I would appreciate it if someone would test out an executable in a floppy disk or usb disk to see if the same thing happens too.  :)

well, there's a thing that I didn't asked first: in the peripherals control panel did you select the "show the hidden peripherals" option (sorry, but I see only my interface... italian... and I try to imagine what are you seeing on your screen). Sometimes, old drivers remains after uninstall. I had a similar problem with a spool driver and I was like a madman for days and days!  ;D

 I tried what you suggested and I did found a driver remain. I uninstal or removed that too, including the USB Mass  storage to my usbdisk and its still no good.  :(

Um.... can you rephrase that a little bit... I don't really understand what you're trying to say....I'm sorry. :(

Anyway, thanks again. But I do want to ask a favor from anyone interested though. Can anyone try to add an executable (.exe) into a floppy disk (or usb disk if available) and see if there is anything wrong if you right click the file, maybe even just clicking on it. I have this same problem in two of my computers and wonder if it happens on others as well. I think it might be Microsoft related, because it had been happening ever since some automatic updates. Its just a thoery though, don't know if its true.  :-\ I would appreciate it if anyone try. :)

Sorry: my english is very bad!  :'( I heard by some friends about problems similar to your problem and they used Transcend (is a USA brand) devices.

I guess it is only I, that have this error. I tried googling up this error and nothing relevent came up that is silmilar to the problem I'm having. And both of my computers have the exact same problem, and I wonder why? I don't know what to do next. Should I contact Microsoft to see if it has anything to with this problem? I had already contacted SanDisk (my usb disk provider), and they say the usb disk is defective. But I doubt using a new one would make any difference. Even my floppy disk have this problem. Does it have to do something with my system configurations? I'm very in a tight position right now  :-\ Maybe I should ask a friend to try out my usb disk and see if it works on their computer?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  :)
