Cannot get updates
« on: August 12, 2013, 06:16:54 PM »
I've tried to get the system to update the virus definition and other updates, but it doesn't seem to work. It "cannot establish a connection" and it is retrying with different IP addresses (servers?). Everything else on my computer works just fine, I can browse the web with no problems. I do not have the Windows Firewall turned on and there are no other security/AV products running.

One thing I noticed is that if I temporarily disable Avast (right-click on the icon and and choose "disable for 10 minutes"), then the updates starts, but it only goes half way. Right now, it shows my definition version as 130720-0 with an "X" next to it in my Avast.com profile.

Any ideas?

Try...GUI>Settings>Updates>Proxy Settings>tick "direct connection-no proxy".  :)
If that fails try a repair...Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click "avast">click "repair">reboot :)

try download the update here.   http://www.avast.com/download-update

Tried this too and got the following error: "setup cannot be started at this time. Avast is currently updating". It wasn't updating anything, I checked. I even rebooted and tried again and got the same error.

When I try to update through the GUI, it stay in the perpetual state of initializing.
