How can I prevent avast from automatically downloading updates? When my laptop is connected to the internet via my phone, I don't want Avast to automatically download updates.

You can change it in the settings.

In german version of avast! it's the point "Update".

I think in the english version it is similar.

You can choose it for the VPS-Updates and the programm-Updates different.
