PC won't start, is my pc infected ?
« on: August 12, 2013, 08:36:35 PM »
Hello good people,

Here's the story in short:

My PC has been working fine for a long time, but since last night it won't start up anymore, it only shows me a black screen with the cursor on it.
I pulled all the extra hardware off, tried rebooting, but still the same, safe mode ... still the same.

Someone else used my pc last night, but says she didn't do anything weird, just some facebook games (...)
I wasn't there when she used it, so i can't judge what did or did not happen.

As i really don't feel like formatting all and re-installing, i turn to the ubergeeks @ avast.
I searched this forum a little, but did not find anything specific to my situation yet.

I did however run a scan with the FarBar Scan tool, and attached are the results.
I hope anyone can help me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi this may not work

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Run FRST as before and press Fix
Once completed try a reboot to normal windows

Hi essexboy,

Thanks for your fast response.
Unfortunately you were right. it did not work, computer still hangs on black screen with the cursor showing, but does not start to the desktop.
The fix ran succesfully however.

One other thing i noticed, while staring at the black screen, i noticed the cursor changing to the "waiting" cursor sometimes, with the spinning blue circle.
Looks like it is trying to load something ?? HDD Activity LED is also constantly on, blinks sometimes.
After about 5 to 10 seconds it turns back to the normal cursor, just to change back to the "waiting" cursor, some random amount of seconds later (30 to 90 secs)
Same thing while trying Safe Mode. (but just in lower resolution :P)

Anything else i could try ?

P.S. the PC is also not responding to inputs like "Ctrl-Alt-Del" ...
