Avast is....WOW
« on: May 03, 2005, 06:22:02 AM »
I am a "semi-newbie"
Owned my first PC for about a year.

Have had AVAST for almost 3 months.
Ended up  dumping Norton in last month  to allow AVAST full access.
A damn good choice!

Right now I am running AVAST,AVG(which seems to get along with AVAST)Spybot, AD-AWARE SE,SPYWAREBLASTER, and Zone Alarm as a firewall.

They all seem to get along well.

But as far as AVAST goes...............

WOW,
Right from the start  it found a Trojan that Norton didn't show up in Norton.
I have explored the help section, have modified the settings to my PC, and have asked for help in this forum.

The "HELP" section taught me about Avasts real abilities.

I am amazed that a free Anti-virus can be so complete,.

So ,again....AVAST is WOW :)

Just a small word of advice. You should never run more than ONE resident AV at a time.
If you do, you will run into trouble sooner or later and it's usually sooner than later.

I suggest dumping AVG since it's taking up your memory and your hardrive.  Don't need two Antivirus running, if you want to see if your computer is 100% clean, that's what online virus scanners are for.

This can be very dangerous I think, but as we used to say in France:

Don't run AVAST and AVG at the same time

LOL

I promise to post here when it proves you guys right, but,..........

For now,
Both AVAST and AVG have gotten along quite well for months.
Everybody, and I mean---EVERERBODY---Tells me not to run
2 antivirus programs,

Both have caught things that each would not have  caught alone.
There is NO sign of them fighting each other.

Seen that before, that is why I dumped NORTON.

Sure I am wrong, sure I will see a conflict sooner or later.............

Actually, I'm lying,no conflicts in months on my setup.

But if conficts happen, will post here. ;)

Well, I have both too  8)
But, of course, only avast! as resident. If you know what you're doing, it will work  ;)

if you feel the need to have two av's on your machine, then why not use bitdefender v7 free for dwnld from thier site, it has no resident monitor, so as not to interfere with your resident av (avast!) and it has a scheduler too.

For me it interferes on email. If I remember correctly, on MS Outlook scanning  :P
Few updates, very limited features. In fact, I give up on this  8)

Sure... I'm on Linux now and can't say what is my AntiVir version but, for sure, just the resident guard was NEVER running.
Only avast...  8)

Yep, I remove Anti Vir Active Guard and keep my avast!  as my resident neighbor.   ;D
