Computer turning off when running avast
« on: May 02, 2005, 11:27:01 PM »
Most of the times when I run a scan the computer turns off by itself without being able to run the scan. It also happens sometimes when I run spydoctor and I don't know if this is caused by a virus/Trojan/worm or something not working well with the systems...Any ideas? Thanks!

Will this happen if you schedule a boot time scanning with avast?
Which is your operational system?
Does the system shut down normally or crash (power off)?

So, can you schedule and run once?
After that, see into folder \windows\minidump and send the newest (recent) .mdmp files for analysis.
Better if you can compress (zip) them and add some information and the link for this thread.  ;)

Send an email to any of these addresses:
vlk (at) avast.com
rypacek (at) asw.cz

Or upload to the any of these anonymous ftp servers:
ftp://ftp.asw.cz/incoming
ftp://www2.asw.cz/incoming

Thank you very much. The answer sounds really technical, but I'll do my best :)

Does your pc shutsoff immidiatly or does it freeze?
Had same prob (shutoff), not only on scan but on big task (running videos ect)

My problem got solved with cleanin the thing that makes sound, goes roundn'round and cold down the pc... ;)

Sorry to be that 'technical'...
Scheduling a boot-time scanning:
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.

Are you using Windows XP?
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning

Yes I did, and it worked...And yes, I have Windows XP. I uninstalled Avast and installed it again yesterday, so we'll see how it works now...No virus were found, but I wonder if this is caused by a virus...Any ideas of why this could have happened?
