Mechwarrior Online, AMD CPUs and Avast
« on: August 17, 2013, 05:24:44 PM »
Since two patches ago by PGI, the developers of the Mechwarrior:Online (MW:O) game, I have not been able to play the MW:O game due to my system configuration of an AMD FX-4100 CPU and Avast anti-virus. This issue does not only affect FX-4100/Avast systems, there are several AMD and Intel-based CPU  computer with or without Avast being affected. And it isn't just the AMD/Avast configs that are being plagued by this issue.

I have Avast Internet Suite (paid for)

It is my thought that it is not Avast and AMD, it is MW:O's coding. The PGI/MW:O tech support just says they are talking with Avast to remediate the problem. I do not believe PGI is, frankly, since there are too few players affected it seems.

See, if that helps...

Uncheck: Settings -> Troubleshooting -> Enable hardware-assisted virtualization

tried that earlier and nothing changed. should I restart the computer after unchecking that box?

Just tried this and restarted and launched the game's patcher and selected "Play". Got the usual reaction of "Please Wait", but after a few minutes, the game launched. Will unchecking that feature complicate my computer's security?

Hello, all :D

I just wanted to point out that my AMD 970 chipset board appears to be unaffected, and others with my same CPU have reported having this issue on the MWO Forums, but they all had older chipsets...  I have Avast! Free Home Edition, version 8.0.1497, installed on Windows 7 64-bit, with an FX-6300 CPU, and 16 GB of PC3-10600, and an HIS IceQ 7850 2048 MB...  I intentionally turned AMD-v on in the BIOS of my motherboard, and had it enabled with no issues while playing MWO, though I did turn it off for other reasons.  It was still turned on with the game functioning after people began reporting the issue...

Also, I wanted to report that a LOT of people are still reporting this issue, and was wondering if Avast! (or it's parent company, Alwil Software) is taking any steps to correct the problem, or if PGI or any of it's affiliates have been in contact with this company, to bring about a solution themselves?
