Lost Android phones

My son lost his brand new phone. Its connected to my gmail And is set up with locat my device it shows the phones initial appearance and its last hit the last changes and it will say device located and prompt me to click on link taking me to Google maps and then always shows me exactly WHERE I AM!!!! Van I use this service to help me figure out where I am not.. because that I know..

I wonder that too? Perhaps his phone had Avast and was connected to a Google account, and now need they backup because the device are lost. Would be easier to help with more details.
