Not working. Almost impossible to download the tool.  :(

Everytime I start the download in Firefox, it shows "unknown time remaining - 0 bytes (0 bytes/sec)". And nothing happens if I leave it like that. If I click cancel and retry, Firefox suddenly downloads part of the file in just seconds but once again stops, this time, and every time same "A few seconds remaining - 2,0 of 5,0 MB (1,2 MB/sec)". Download never finishes.

This same thing happened a while ago when I downloaded the 1.0.1.2161 version (I can't remember anymore but I guess I managed to download it after I tried and tried many many times during a day) and now with the latest 1.0.1.2252.

There's something wrong.. and it's not my internet connection.

Avast, can you do something?

EDIT: And now the download link http://files.avast.com/files/rootkit-scanner/aswmbr.exe doesn't work at all, server doesn't answer. :( Ping and tracert works though. Akamai problems?

No problem downloading it here winXP, avast 10.0.2208 and firefox 33.1.1.

I just clicked on the aswmbr.exe file and firefox threw up the normal window with the save file option.

If you tried that did you try right clicking on the aswmbr.exe link and select Save link as... option.

Now when I tried downloading it again (normally just clicking the link), it downloaded fine.

BUT, like I said, there seems to be continuing but intermittent problems with the download as this was not the first time it happened!

It seems that Avast is using Akamai to host and it would not be the first time their CDN has had problems. And to make it hard to test, the geographical location of the user downloading has a role.

Last night, when I wrote the previous post, I couldn't download anything from files.avast.com (straight links to executables, e.g. http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe). So it seems to be the hosting that has problems, and if Akamai is the host.. well, there's the culprit.

I regularly download these files (perhaps not as frequently as you) and haven't had an issue so far - just downloaded aswclear.exe from the link you gave and no problem.

Yes, that's great, for you.

Bear in mind what I wrote:

Geographical location of the user downloading has a role when downloading from CDN, i.e. at the same time you could be downloading just fine while some other user in another country couldn't.

I know that the update servers for VPS and Program are on hundreds of servers and would be in different locations.

I was under the impression that the files.avast.com stuff would be on the avast server in Prague.

Okey.

It's Akamai. When I tracert files.avast.com, I get this:

Code: [Select]
C:\>tracert files.avast.com

Tracing route to e3442.g.akamaiedge.net [2.23.158.13]

EDIT: I vaguely remember that the Akamai URL (dunno about the IP) of the trace was different last night when I had problems.. unfortunately can't be sure on this. I'll get back in this topic if (and probably when) the problem occurs again.
