Hi,

Hi,

I wanted to report a strange behavior from avast today...

The computer started normally and everything is fine but avast! popped that he can't update...and really I received the following errors:

The shields disappeared: (and I wasn't able to turn them off via right click on the tray icon)

The update process failed with the following error: (the package is damaged)

I tried to repair avast via control panel and got the following error:

and here is the error log:

My computer is malware free (I am malware removal trained expert at BleepingComputer) but I decided to double-check the computer (just to be sure)...

The hitmanpro log was a funny one: (it says - This file is invisible. It is probably protected by cloaking technology (rootkit). Yeah, probably false positives for HMP since I have Early Warning Scoring enabled...

The version is 8.0.1497. I had no problems so far with the previous ones...

Hehe, that was strange. I killed the avast processes and restarted the application. I tried to update avast (but it gave an error which says that avast instance update is already running). I noticed it was a huge update. When the update was installed avast! started to work as it should and the problem is solved. I guess I downloaded and installed bad update in wrong time (maybe the update was pulled out) and the newest one is corrected.

Anyway this will remain a mystery to me. :)

Georgi
