Is there a Download for the Linux that
« on: September 05, 2013, 03:58:11 AM »
Is there a download that will download a Working Avast AV thatWill Work?. I have for the past 2 weeks tried everything that will get this going. I used Avast for Windows for years. I switched to Pinguy Linux. Love it! Only been back on Windows 4 times since the 1st of the year.
Now, I get invalid argument when I try and start it up. I can run the terminal, and get it to start, and can scan. It will not, update, I can't get the nice Avast GUI to show up, theres some kinda, odd page that you run from. And it hasn't asked about the liscense, so I haven't been able to put it in.
BitDefender, thats a joke. I figured Avast certainly has it up and going....guess I was wrong.
I shouldn't have to hack in and straighten up files for the programmers....

Wonderful, I'm glad to hear of another Linux convert.
Please understand firstly:
1.) Avast4linuxworksations carries the virus database for windows viruses.
2.) As there are not any Linux Viruses basically the idea of running an AV under Linux is to protect yourself i.e, if you are Dual Booting, and if you share Emails or files with Windows users.
3.) From my experience over five years of using Linux I've not found one Virus, so, ... :)

Linux obviously can be Hacked, if used in a unintended manner, most obviously logging in as root, rather than a User account.

Yes, in a word.  ;)
Presently I'm aware of availabilty of the good ol' free version:
avast! Linux Edition (RPM): http://files.avast.com/files/linux/avast4workstation-1.3.0-1.i586.rpm
avast! Linux Edition (DEB): http://files.avast.com/files/linux/avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb
avast! Linux Edition (TAR GZ): http://files.avast.com/files/linux/avast4workstation-1.3.0.tar.gz

If you want to install the RPM version, we have a Tutorial that makes life very simple:
