Virustotal like Sites?
« on: September 03, 2013, 09:39:11 PM »
I recently downloaded a Overclocker, the .exe file is over 250 Meg's. I just want to run it through some form of known online scanner make sure it is actually clean. Any sites?

I'm not aware of sites such as VT that would handle uploads of that size. Most have a size restriction like VT.

Dang. Okay. Is there any other way? I don't feel like installing everything single AV out there to test the file....

Well it will be scanned by avast when it is downloaded and before it is run and during installation.

But there is nothing to stop you from doing some investigation before even downloading it, googling the file name and program, the creators website, where it is downloaded from, etc. etc. and see what is returned

Even local antivirus/antimalware programs will usually not scan files over 40MB-100MB in order to speed up scans and save system resources. Some programs allow you to raise this limit. With that said, I would try Comodo Cleaning Essentials (portable, can be run from a flash drive). In Options, raise the file size to 300MB, update the virus database and run a Custom scan on the file in question. CCE is very competent and I would trust it's findings.

Direct download links:
http://download.comodo.com/cce/download/setups/cce_2.5.242177.201_x32.zip
http://download.comodo.com/cce/download/setups/cce_2.5.242177.201_x64.zip

PS You already have SAS. Enable file scanning over 4MB in Preferences > Scanning Control.

@David: It's from Britec09's channel. He's a tech Guy, just wanted to double check though

It isn't me that is concerned of the source, I'm just pointing out that you can do some due diligence before even downloading it. Essentially you are gathering information to reassure yourself that it is at least OK to download.

I have no idea why you would download comodo or why it was even suggested, avast has no file size restriction in its scan, especially if you use the right click context menu scan.

The source should explain why it was suggested. :)

Don't have to reread the topic. :)
I don't open links if I don't know what they are all about. I didn't see any description.
