Remove/turn-off update prompt?
« on: September 23, 2013, 08:35:38 AM »
Because of the many bugs with version 1497, especially with Windows 7 64 bit, I would prefer to keep with version 1489, as it has been the most stable release I have ever had with Avast!, but Avast! keeps telling me my system is not secure and wants me to update to the version that may render my PC unbootable, given what I have read at the forum here.

Is there anything I can do to get rid of the warnings and update pop-ups etc?

Does the program still offer protection with version 1489?

Additionally, will there be a new version forthcoming that resolves the W7 64 bit issues?

TIA

I'm having no issues with AIS 8.0.1497 on Win 7 SP1.

To get rid of the program update notification, click on Settings in the upper right hand corner of the AvastUI.  Then, in the resulting page, click on Updates and set Program to "Manual update".

Thanks, but that does not remove the warning icon or the your system is not secure message. Very annoying. I am too scared to update in case it removes my system files. Hopefully they are working on a fix.

Have you tried doing a clean install ? Totally remove your current installation through add/remove and then used the removal tool
followed by a new install of avast!

No, as per my post, I do not want to update from version 1489 due to all the reported issues affecting W7 in 1497. I would just like to continue using the current version for the time being without having the warning icon, unprotected system messages and nags to update, provided my system is still being protected with version 1489. Do you know if Avast! are working on a fix for all these issues with 1497?

Okay, so I guess there is no way to remove the warnings. I can live with them I guess... But... is anyone able to tell me however, that given I have not updated due to the potential of version 1497 wiping my system files, and so Avast now keeps nagging me that my system is unprotected, am I in fact still protected?

Finally, is there any news on whether the bugs with 1497 have been fixed yet?

As far as I am aware 1497 is working fine.  It was for me before I switched to the beta

What about all the posts here about it deleting W7 64 bit system files on boot? Are you saying that's been fixed now?

I also have resisted engine update and found no way of turning off the pop-up notices but...
in avast settings I've set a time of 1 second to the display of info popups so now those only flash and go away.
Update notifications and warnings still show up and remain for 20 secs as default.

Computer problems with one program, aren't always the fault of that program. This is one such example.
A problem within a Windows update broke some other programs.
