This program keeps poping up
« on: May 17, 2005, 05:06:36 AM »
In ZoneAlarm the program known as "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" want to accept connections from the internet.  It's a server program that keeps poping up after like 12-30 minutes after computer start-up.  I always Allow it to accept connections, but is this program trustworthy?  :-\

Generic Host Process for Win32 Services : Also known as:  svchost.exe
Svchost.exe is a program that loads Windows services that are in the form of dynamic-link libraries (DLLs).
It is possible for more than one svchost.exe to be running at one time, with more than 1 service being controlled by that process.
Hope that helps :)

What you need to do is find the program that is using svchost.exe to connect to the internet, svchost.exe is just the tool, you need to find who/what is using the tool.

I generally block it from connecting.  This does interfere with some updates (such as (such as SUN Java), which means I have to allow it on occasions.

Why? Do you use a network? I mean, more than one computer and a shared printer for instance?
If not, let the trusted zone on High level (or, at least, Medium).

Oh, I see now you're talking about the Internet Adapter... Let it on the Internet Zone and not trusted.
