Help needed w/ possible virus
« on: September 24, 2013, 08:07:52 PM »
Hi friends! this morning when I went to a site I have gone in the past w/ no issues, a popup came up saying I need to update my  player ( which I don't have): "Notice! Please update your FLV player" the page that's frozen where the popup is and I can't close is: freefilmshd/cashy/flv/?did=165953598413800
I know is some kind of virus, as i can not close the page or minimize it.. I have not clicked on the popup as I heard that's how the virus in loaded to the system.
I read somewhere in the past, that by shutting down the computer it gets rid of it, so it won't get into the computer.
My questions are:
1- is that the right way to deal with these fozen popups or what should I do? , I still have my labtop on.
2- why neither spyware blaster, malwarebytes or avast detected it and prevented me for going to that page , as it usually does with others.
Thanks!

When you have something like that dont click run or on the popups.

If you want a deep check of your system follow this guide and attach logs:

Run in order listed. When done malware removers will be notified. Used Tools will be removed.

Thanks Steven! I didn't, but should I just turn off computer, without clicking on anything? I think this happened once and it got rid of it

I think thats a good idea.

You can try to get this with Malwarebytes if you cannot get rid of it.

I did run Malwarebytes with popup on and it came up clear. I believe the virus  may not be activated till clicking on popup. I will turn off my computer, since I have to work and either way it will eventually turn off by itself.

from the link steven gave you ... run adwcleaner ...  post log here
if that does not fix it we need the OTL log from the same guide to help you

These are common. The other way for me to kill it is via Task Manager (Ctrl Alt Delete). Find the name Chrome*32 and end it. It will close any open tabs/windows but it shuld kill the pop-up

Thanks Pondus: here is the result of the ADWcleaner. I already restarted the computer after .
I think everything is OK, but please let me know if anything else is neded..
But I still have this question:
2- why neither spyware blaster, malwarebytes or avast detected it and prevented me for going to that page , as it usually does with others.
Thanks!
