Run Avast on a portable USB stick?
« on: October 05, 2013, 03:08:23 PM »
A family member has a very sick laptop that will not allow any software to be installed and none of the Administrator features are available for use by an admin!  We suspect they have a virus and need to run a suitable scan, but their AV has been disabled!  So we want to run Avast from a USB memory stick without actually installing it onto the laptop (it won't allow the install!).  I've downloaded the latest version from Safer Networking ready to use.

Is it possible to set up Avast to run from a USB stick?  If so, how do I set it up on an available 512 Mb stick?  Are there any perceived problems running it that way?

We can't run a 'remote' scan using one of the web-based scanners, the ADSL is very slow and has very limited download allowance.

Thanks for your help.

If you are using the beta then you can create a repair disc from that
