Avast reports that database out of date

hi,

i just installed avast 4.6 home edition and did a full virus scan and my Pc is clean, but when i start my PC (win XP SP2) avast dont start immediately and then it reports that i use old VPS (virus database) and SP2 security center shows the same alert ???

does anyone have a idea about this problem ?

Answers for XP Security Center not detecting anti-virus program could be found here:

You can see if into your C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data|Log\setup.txt log file there is anything with interest (on the last 50 lines of it for instance).

Check your system date, especially the year.

Do a manual update, right click the avast icon, select Updating, iAVS Update.

Your firewall might ask for permission for avast.setup (and possibly ashUpdSv.exe) to connect, allow it/them.
