Firewall Blocks Hyper-v traffic
« on: October 07, 2013, 05:01:36 PM »
I have had a search of the forums, but I cant seem to fin d the answer to this..

Using Avast! free edition, I have hyper-v running on my Windows 8 machine with 2 vms running web services - the Avast firewall is blocking traffic to and from these VMs - where would I configure the exception, and how?

many thanks

Jimmy

No, no pop up message, all i know is, I stop the avast firewall, my VMs can talk to the internet again. I start the firewall, they get cut off...

Go to the settings for the firewall and allow them there.

"Go to the settings for the firewall and allow them there." - Could you be please more specific? I need to know, what exactly to change there in order my Hyper-V VM to have the internet traffic, as my host machine does. Thank you in advance.

Setting up Firewall Application Rules in Avast Antivirus
https://support.avast.com/en-eu/article/Antivirus-Firewall-Application-Rules

=================================================================

NOTE:The Network profiles control the settings which determine how strictly Firewall protects your PC.

Private: a lower level of security suitable for when your PC is connected to a trusted network such as your home or work network.
This profile enables better connectivity, and permits all communication within the network.

Public: a higher level of security suitable for when your PC is connected to a public network such as in a cafe or airport.
Because public networks present greater security risks, no incoming communication is permitted when this profile is set.

I have now allowed everything under Virtual Machine Connection, but still, if the Avast Firewall is on, then no Browser can work in the VM. Once I disable the Avast Firewall, then it works just fine. Please, see the screenshot and tell me, if there is something to be changed. Thank you in advance.

I have resolved the issue now. To answer your question from the last post, I have the Private Network setting under Network Connection.
The Application Rule for the Virtual Machine Connection was the proper step, but it came out (after playing a lot around) that in order to take effect, I have to Turn Off / Turn On Avast firewall once. I am not sure if this is supposed to be this way, if yes, then it could be a good addition to the article, if it isn't, then you could raise this to the respective team internally.
Thank you for your assistance.
