You really need to provide a lot more details if you want help. E.G.:
What version of avast?
What vps version?
What os?
What service pack(s)?
Any other security software installed? If yes, which one(s)?
Any other problem(s) with the system? e.g. slow, not opening certain websites etc etc.

What you have installed is a beta version of avast and yes, beta versions can have glitches.
I suggest you install the latest RC3  from http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=136310.0
