avast won't open
« on: October 11, 2013, 01:14:31 AM »
Hi,

I've been using avast and up until this morning I had no problems. But, now it won't open. I'm running XP Pro using the latest FF ver. 24. If I right or left click on the avast desktop icon I created it doesn't open. I then tried to open it as admin and nothing.

I then visited C:/Program Files/AVAST Software/Avast and right clicked and then left clicked on the file AvastUI.exe but nothing happens.

I renewed my registration 3 months ago with a confirmation from avast that I was registered.

I won't go on the net without  AV protection so as long as avast doesn't work I can't use the net - even to read emails.

I'm using another PC to access this forum.

It's the only AV I have installed and I have not changed any settings on it. I have not added or downloaded any new programs.

It's as if avast has turned off the power.

I completed a support t ticket this morning but I have not heard anything from avast all day. I need to access the net for important e-mails.

Any thoughts about how to fix this?

Thank you.

do you have any other security programs installed?
is all previous used AV fully removed?

have you tried avadt repair?
controlpanel > ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall > repair option ....wait a minute and reboot

any change?

Pondus,

That worked perfectly.
