Renewal discount (or rather it's nonexistence)
« on: October 12, 2013, 12:16:38 PM »
So my AIS license is expiring and I was thinking about renewal. The renewal window says you get 53% discount, so you might think, "cool", right? Well, that's until you try to purchase a NEW license, because you get what? . . . exactly the same price. So... the renewal discount is actually zero, nichts, nada... Not cool, not cool at all.

How long before the renewal is required ?

Where are you trying to purchase/renew ?
If it isn't via the avast UI renewal, but directly from the avast website then there would be no linkage/connection with your existing license.

The price is the same no matter if you open the link from the renewal e-mail you get 30 days before expiration, click renew in the UI, the nag popup or make a new purchase in avast store.

In the past when I have seen discount offers from within the UI the discount has been available.

You could use the on-line contact form, http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles for:  * Sales inquiries, etc.

Use the form to report the problem and hopefully they can resolve it.

warlock, my guess is that you are not doing something right..

you mentioned purchasing a "new" license.. maybe that is the problem..you are trying to purchase a new license rather than "extending" (renewing) the license that you already have..

Nope, I tried new purchase just to check if the discount really is a discount (because for example with Kaspersky it was once cheaper to buy a new license than to extend the current one). Now, reading your reactions more carefully, I now see you think there is no discount. Well, there is a discount, but you get the same discount no matter if you purchase a new license or extend the old one. That's much better than the example with Kaspersky, but it's still not a good gesture towards current customers.

So I am actually not the only one who saw this. Really bad marketing as far as I am concerned. Charging the same price for a new license as well as for renewing simply feels wrong. Not to mention that in my case I have to pay the price in euros which comes almost to $60 for a renewal :o This alone makes me think about ditching avast IS and simply going for some free alternative.
