Strange...
« on: May 22, 2005, 07:34:34 AM »
It started when I install Opera when my memory start up was slow.  Even after I remove Opera, my memory was too slow at start-up, Avast! and ZA start up slower than normal start-up cause I always see a red dot on avast! for a while and ZA icon wasn't even appeard untill the red icon was gone and avast! shield was running.   ???  Any ideas?

Try a registry cleaning program like CCleaner to clean out the registry.

Have you deleted all  files in your windows prefetch folder?? Check to see if the

layout.ini file is there.

yes, P3T3bOnn is right. If you have no results, empty the temporary folder. If the result is the same, run "chkdsk /r": this remedy has been useful for me when I had lost my sistray icon of winpatrol

I just found out that it only happens on restart, shut down and turn on manually will just delay the appearance.  :(

Hi, FIXER! You know, the things in the prefetch folder are there only to speed up your download of the mostly used files and webpages. if the prefetch is too bigger, maybe it can be a problem because the memory waste alot of power to check for this cached files at system startup.
ADDED: empty prefetch don't resolve your problem. Try to empty the Temp folder.

Yes, no problem. Be in peace of mind deleting the prefetch.  ;) remember to reboot...

check back after a reboot and you will find most of them back in the folder.

The only gain would be if you removed a prefetch file for a program you had uninstalled.

Yes, Connie: this is the reason why my suggestion of empty also the Temporary files: the same when we schedule a scanning at reboot with our Avast! :)

That was my first choice, didn't work, only when I shut down my computer and turn it on manually, I don't see the red dot on the icon, just dosn't appear for a few seconds.
