I applied the MS patch updates released by MS October 13 and experienced a total freeze on my computer a Win 7 Pro 32-bit.  Luckily I have an image backup taken approx. 1 week before the updates which allows me to restore and start again.  I have tried various combinations of installing the patches but the moment my PC reboots it hangs on the Please wait... I found a reference to this problem on the softpedia website when someone else complained about a similar problem http://news.softpedia.com/news/Microsoft-Confirms-KB2862330-Windows-7-Update-Problems-390567.shtml. I also tried switching off all Avast shields and prevented it from updating during the installation process.  I have tried 4 times with different scenarios all resulting the same thing.  The moment I try to restart Avast or try to access any of its functions it freezes my PC.  Since I could no longer use Avast I went into safe mode and removed it.  I also attempted to re-install Avast which did not work and also resulted in freezing my PC.  I have temporarily installed a different AV (MSE - ouch) and all is working again with no more freezing.  A reference is made to patch(es) KB2862330 and possibly KB2862335 as the possible culprits.  I avoided the installation of KB2862330 but did KB2862335.  I subsequently removed (by restore) KB2862335 after my PC started freezing (the moment Avast kicked in).  I have Avast running on at least 4 other PCs (Win7 ultimate and XP) and a laptop (Win 7 32-bit) without any problems and have noticed the KB's mentioned all installed without any problems.  I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this of may have experienced a similar problem.  Thank you

Note the Trusteer program had to be removed here.  Is Trusteer installed on this machine?

Yes, Trusteer is installed.  Sorry it took me a while to reply but I had to restore an even earlier image going back to before the September patches.  I restored, removed Trusteer (remember to stop the service first to anyone else attemting to do this) and reapplied all September and October patches and other updates.  Problem solved and again a happy Avast user.  Thank you very much for the help and pointers to resolve this problem.  Well done. :)

You're welcome.

Seems whatever update it is only affects Win x86 32-bit systems.  Might be a good idea to check with Trusteer and let them know about the possible compatibility issue.
