I just want to point out that iam unable to start and use windvd ever since i updated my avast 8.x version to 9.x (2014) !!!
The application crashes resulting in total windows freez some how..!!!

Even taskmanager is blank when i summon it !!!???

I have made an topic about it in the hopes to get an strait answer/fix/sollution (take ur pick)...

Have tried myself to overcome this obstacle:

1. add windvd to exclusion lists from avast
2. uncheck some defensive features through troubleshooting section from avast !!
3. disable all shields
4. To all above ↑ NO AVAIL !!!!!!!
5. The only thing that solves this is uninstall AVAST completely from my system !!!!!!!!!!!!

So.... is that a SERIOUS BUG in AVAST or what !?

my system specs are:
OS: Win7 x64 SP1 (up to date)

thanks in advance,

I installed WinDVD just to check this out.
The installation goes through without any problems even with avast! running.
Opening WinDVD is a different story. once installed, it's opening screen appears and then,
nothing. No error messages no freezing, it just doesn't work. The actual program never starts.

Keep getting a popup about FaceBook every time the computer boot up. I don't use and don't want anything to do with FaceBook. Avast 2014 is missing the popup controls that existed in previous versions. How can one block the FaceBook popup?

That's what I get but still no sound....

OK. I guess that's right, because I just did a reboot and it didn't pop up. But I did not clearly see anything in the popup saying the VPS had been updated; just the stuff about "FB". I'll look at it more closely next time. Thanks.

I would love to try this new version but after having read all the problems some people had and are still having I guess I'll just keep the version I have now.

What do you expect on a support forum, they come to report problems, those without problems generally don't come to say that the update was OK. So you will always get a skewed set of figures.

You should use the removal tool and do a clean Avast reinstall. Please, post questions in the proper non-English section:

I'd like to report an issue with AVAST 2014 messing up Windows Media Center 7 ability to use network Tuners (Silicone Dust).

Troubleshooted it for a day and gave up and had to apply an OS image from before AVAST 2014 upgrade.

I think it's related to the thread on SMB shares being inconsistantly available and how AVAST 2014 is toggling Win Firewall on/off inconstantly.

All was well in previous AVAST and how it always left Win7 firewall ON.

Version: 2014.9.0.2006 Free Antivirus

My license is about to expire and I got an email telling how to do it, but the directions are inaccurate. This version does not seem to have a place to re-register. The email instructions I got are:

How to register?
-    Open your avast! program via the desktop icon or Start menu
-    Click ‘Maintenance’ in the left pane and from the unfolded submenu select 'Registration'
-    Select ‘Register’ in the left menu
-    Click the ‘Register now’ button in the main white area
-    Select your option, fill in the form, and submit it
-    You are then protected for another year.

Problems:

- There is no maintenance tab on the left pane. Tabs are Status, Scan, Tools, Store, My Devices, Help, Statistics, Settings

- There is no "Register" option anywhere in this program. I have looked everywhere. In earlier versions, this was easy to find.

- The only "Maintenance" options are in the "Settings" tab on the left pane, but there is no option to register anything. Options under this maintenance are "Auto-Cleanup", "Logs" and "Virus Chest", nothing more.

- At the top of the main "Status" window, it says I am using Free Antivirus and says I have 30 days left on my license, but there is no option anywhere to register it again. This seems to be a huge oversight as options to re-register an expiring license should be extremely easy to find like in previous versions, but it is nowhere to be found in this one.

Hope this helps:

This screen on your computer should now reflect an option to re-register.
Make sure you select the option to remain with the FREE version of avast!

Open avast -> Settings -> Subscription ;)

Was that so hard ? :)

Cheers.

After update to IS 2014  Avast blocks Delphi debugger (XE4). Once I start debugging a program, a message pops up saying 'Unable to create process here-is-my-debugged-program'. Seems like the debugger has no permissions at all. Didn't find a way to unblock it, added it to all exceptions lists but no good. Turning off Avast screens doesn't help, either. Can the problem be solved or I have to roll back to 8 and wait for an update?

Thanks Bob, for pointing that out ... → AGAIN !!

Exactly, Windvd starts alright but the windvd window acts weird and indeed hangs/freez...   Just try to click on the window and u'll see what i mean ...  u get the hourglass , and if you press the keys CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to summon task manager you will get BLANK .. WHITE = EMPTY window to see !!!

The only thing you can do from that point forward to rectify it is to log of and log back in !!!

Oh well, have been an long avast user for an long time .... BUT i never have had SUCH an problems with avast from this magnitude ... not even close to that !!!!!!
Seems AVAST 9.x wosnt ready for public release if u ask me and judging from the many reports that other people have made ever since the release  ... !!

cheers
