Clean install has (apparently) fixed all issues.
That has done so in the past too.

"Apparently"...
I was forced to downgrade... A happy Avast user again... :)

I still think that a comprehensive user's guide/manual is a good idea. I'm guessing that there's one out there somewhere. If not, perhaps some generous fan could put one together.

For some inexplicable reason the page to download the User Guides doesn't seem to be
accessible anywhere on the Avast! website, if you try to follow the links starting
from the Home page. Even the "Downloads" page doesn't seem to have a link to the
documentation files anymore. I appreciate that the PDFs for 2014 may not be ready
yet, but I fail to see why the documentation for other versions and products has
been removed by not providing a link to the appropriate page anymore. The files and
web page still exist here:

http://www.avast.com/en-ca/download-documentation

But I don't see a link to this page from anywhere on the site.

Hello everybody, before creating Avast rescue disc i tried a several times without success, but in the end i let my computer all the night switched on while trying to download Avast rescue disc, in the morning i found that three new component are installed :
 - Windows PE x86 x64 (size 1.24GB)
 - Windows Deployement tools (23.4MB)
 - Windows PE x86 x64 wims (284MB)
So after installing those three component my avast in now able to create easy CD rescue in several minutes. So everybody who want to be able to create rescue cd you should first let your windows download the necessary components before being able to create bootable cd.

Hello!

It happened twice so far after I updated Avast to the lates v9 (2014) that it showed me the old "avast! Antivirus: Your system is secured." like in v8 and I was unoble to open the GUI by clicking on the icon. After the reboot of my PC it was normal again ("Everything is good") and I was able to open the GUI by clicking on the icon again. Any ideas?

Thanx!

Read the FAQ for more information.  :)

Thank you. But where do I find the P2P and IM settings in AIS 2014 under the 'file system shield' or its not present/configurable? A screenshot would help. The help file does not list such topic but it does show up when I search for the terms. But that's not helpful.
Since they have been consolidated there are no individual settings on some of the past shields.
This make avast leaner and faster while still giving the user superior protection.  8)

I seems that "Scan all files" setting on either webshield and file shield takes tremendous amounts of memory and causes the desktop to hang since I have upgrade to 9.0 and windows 8.1.

Compared in windows 7 x64 ultimate and avast 8.0
DESKTOP: Win 10, Avast 20 Free, Windows firewall, Malwarebytes free

LAPTOP: Win 10, Windows Defender, Malwarebytes free, Windows Firewall, Mcshield

Avast 2014 has been an extremely disappointing update for me... the Web Shield will not allow me to connect to certain websites, forcing me to use Avast with the Web Shield permanently disabled. If this can't be resolved soon, I'll stop using Avast altogether.

I made a forum thread describing the problem here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=138363.0. Please take a look.

Can anyone help me solve this problem? If there is currently no solution, can anyone confirm that the problem is known and being worked on?

This might have made avast leaner but I don't see how it made it faster. On the contrary, it actually means more work for avast which otherwise would have stayed idle while we use P2P/IM service. Now, by default, it will do the scanning. Some of us likes flexibility at configuring things that matter more or opt out services we don't really need. A complete control over what we want or what it does. But guess, you cannot please everyone at the same time! ~
