Avast 2014 has been an extremely disappointing update for me... the Web Shield will not allow me to connect to certain websites, forcing me to use Avast with the Web Shield permanently disabled. If this can't be resolved soon, I'll stop using Avast altogether.

I made a forum thread describing the problem here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=138363.0. Please take a look.

Can anyone help me solve this problem? If there is currently no solution, can anyone confirm that the problem is known and being worked on?

I'm not sure if that thread is describing the same problem I have... in that thread, the original poster said YouTube worked fine, but streams were being blocked. For me, some normal sites like YouTube get their connection reset.
Even if it is the same problem, that thread doesn't do me any good because there isn't a solution for the problem described in that thread.

I have found the same thing, disappointment.  After spending 2 hours figuring out why we can't get into our online banking, and happy the Bank was patient enough to hang on the line with me, we found that the old Avast version works without any issues, the new one you can't get logged in. I have so far about 8 hours into figuring out why things won't work with it, and are moving on. I don't have the time I used to and am moving to a product that is more lights out.

If you use Google Chrome too, can you run the same test as described below? What are the results?

---------------------------------

Alright, I've found some interesting test results...

After running a test (namely chrome://net-internals/#tests) on an affected URL (http://www.youtube.com/) with and without the Web Shield on I got some curious results:

WITH WEB SHIELD ON
  • FAIL - Fetch http://www.youtube.com/ - Don't use any proxy + Probe for IPv6 host resolving - ERR_CONNECTION_RESET (-101) - 42005ms
  • FAIL - Fetch http://www.youtube.com/ - Use system proxy settings + Probe for IPv6 host resolving - ERR_CONNECTION_RESET (-101) - 44326ms
  • FAIL - Fetch http://www.youtube.com/ - Use Firefox's proxy settings + Probe for IPv6 host resolving - ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND (-6) - 4ms
  • FAIL - Fetch http://www.youtube.com/ - Auto-detect proxy settings + Probe for IPv6 host resolving - ERR_CONNECTION_RESET (-101) - 44261ms

WITH WEB SHIELD OFF

With the Web Shield on, all connections fail except when IPv6 host resolving is disabled!
Avast devs, please fix this!

I don't have anything like that with Firefox; at best it sometimes can't load the page, because whatever changes are with Avast 9 disrupt my wireless connection.  Once I ask to reload the page, however, it works.

I think the biggest issue is there is no feature on Avast's website to download the old version of their anti-virus - you can get the most-recent version, but you're stuck if you can't rollback.

I'm a paying user for Avast IS(3 computers). This is the first time I experienced problems with avast IS.

On all 3 different laptops with W7 there were  conection problems for the browsers(IE10 and Google Chrome).
After right clicking the system tray icon and disable all shields , I could acces internet again with the browsers. Immidiatly after that I start up the shields again and everything is working like it should.
Hopefully the Avast team can explain why?

You would be advised to start your own new topic (and we will try to help), as your post and any attempt to help you will be buried in this massive topic.

No AutoSandbox. The normal context menu sandbox is still there.

AutoSandbox has been replaced with DeepScreen.

The new UI is ugly and much less usable. The incessant popups need to go away too.

At most, I've seen 2 in a day and that's been whenever there was a VPS update.
