Avast 2014
« on: October 22, 2013, 09:18:47 PM »
Just installed Avast 2014.9.0.2006. Every time I boot the computer and every time Avast updates the definitions, I get a pop-up about FaceBook. . . which I don't use and don't need this "thing" to pop up all the time. How can one shut it off?

I believe it is GUI>Settings>Appearance>scroll to bottom and uncheck the "show social networking features".

The popup is actually meant to be the auto update notification (check your avastUI > Settings > Update and you will see that an auto update has just taken place. It appears that these tips/ad popups are piggybacked onto the auto update notification popup and this looks like it messes up the display and sound for the auto update notifications.

Unchecking the "show social networking features" as suggested won't work as they are piggybacked to the auto update notifications. The only way to get rid of them would be to uncheck the auto update notifications, reducing the duration of the popups won't work either as it doesn't appear to work as it used to (so another bug).

@DavidR:  Does this only apply to the free version as I don't get these social advert pop-ups.  (Premier).

I can't answer that as I use the free version.

This is the one I'm currently getting in lieu of that auto update notification popup and no voiceover.

Are you getting the auto update notification popup or the one or similar that I attached ?

The only pop-up type I have had since upgrading to Premier (back in RC3) is attached.  Apart from the schedule scan pop-up.

What you have only had one (today) in all that time, are you waiting for the auto update are are you pre-empting it and doing a manual update  ?

Are you getting the sounds ?

Nono - I edited my post .  :D  I have had the update pop-ups once or twice a day.  No sound with the pop-up though.
