Avast Premier 2014 Shields Missing?
« on: October 16, 2013, 11:38:51 AM »
Hi Guy,

Have some of the shields been removed in the new version or have I missed them out? I can only see File, Mail, Web, Antispam & Firewall.

Script, IM, behavioral, P2P shields are all missing  :-\

EDIT: I just saw that the changelog mentions that they have been refined into 3 but are fully configurable, but I couldnt see where to select the IM/P2P software etc..

You cannot select them. Only the 3 shields are available, but all old shields are still there.

The script, IM and P2P are now included in the "web shield".
The behavior shield is now part of the "file shield".

By the way the autosandbox is now "deepscreen".
For more about deepscreen read this.

You are partially right. The Script Shield is included in the "Web Shield", but IM and P2P Shield are included in the "File System Shield", since they depended on this shield in the older Avast version.

What you're assuming it's not technically possible. Do you have a proof that you are right? I can tell you for sure that IM and P2P shield depended on File System Shield and were just a variant of that shield for specific IM and P2P programs.

I have kept up with the development of v2014 and know what I have read.
It is completely possible as the developers can write or re-write code to make it work.

I noticed you used the word "depended", which is a reference to past tense.
Again, what I posted is correct.  :)

I also watched the development from the first beta, and read all the posts in the beta section and feedback site since then.
I used the word "depended" because I was refering to those shield (IM and P2P) that were present in the earlier version of Avast (up to 8.0) and are not present on the current version (9.0). So is that the past or not?
Again, you are saying that you are absolutely sure, and I ask for a proof (quote, official statement from a team member). I am also sure of what I'm saying :)

The way it was explained elsewhere is why I stated, incorrectly, about the shields.

Here is the link for the v2014 FAQ.
