Ok, I downloaded Avast again and re-installed it. It's working fine now. Internet Security 

I still had to reboot my computer to get all the shields running properly

It was so strange because it was like it was never on my computer, completely removed, all traces that I could see

Which version were you using before you installed Win 8.1?

Was it v8 or v9 of Avast?

Internet security (AIS) has different avast versions 7.x, 8.0 and 9.0 (a.k.a avast Internet Security 2014), so the information being asked for relates to the version number AIS, 8 or 9.

The reason this is important, is if it was the older version 8.0, then it may not have been compatible with windows 8.1 and may have been removed.

I'm not sure. I had it set up to auto update and I was pretty good about that. Which one was on there, I cannot say but as I said, it was auto updated

I'm sorry but to be honest with you, that's why I use Avast. I installed it several years ago, I've never had a virus and I never have to worry about it. It just takes care of itself. Also, it doesn't bog down my computer. Sorry I couldn't tell you more. I do think it was eight but I'm not sure. I know they were all active
