Avast 2014 9.0.2006 smb problem
« on: October 17, 2013, 09:19:26 PM »
Hi,

I use Windows 7 32 bits, I have just install Avast Internet Security 2014 9.0.2006 and I usually use Wiimc, as client smb, to play videos and music.

Using Avast 8.x.xxx, I had no problem, but using Avast 2014 I can´t use smb, because I get an error from the share drive.

I have uninstalled Avast 2014 and reinstalled Avast 8 and all works correctly again.

If I install Avast Free it works correctly and if i disable firewall it works well.

It´s possible to fix this problem? how?

Thanks and sorry my bad english

This may be linked to a similar issue I am having with DLNA servers for my home media. It has similar symptoms, no access with the firewall active. I talked to an avast technician and after he confirmed that the settings should be allowing traffic, he recommended to wait for an update in the future fixing this. I'd like an avast rep confirm the issue in the forums though.

I too have found Internet Security 9.0.2006 unstable. Firewall issues, won't allow scanner access and more.
Don't have time or skills to follow thru solutions.
How do I revert to previous version 8.?

In order to repair, use the restore console and revert to the restore point prior to the installation of Avast v.9. As far as I remember the Avast install makes a restore point, it shouldn't be different for you. In case you do not find it, select the last windows' one. Good luck!

Avast 2014 was about the worst thing I have ever had to go through for a major piece of software (Antivirus = major component of PC)

Installed fine and looked like all is well but immediately ruined MCE 7 ability to find TV tuners.  Checked Firewall setting and everything else at Silicone Dust or online.

Seems you could get it to work for a few minutes then BAMM no more tuners.  Disabled Firewall was inconsistant with helping.  Disabling AVAST 100% made it work.  Since I could leave it that way I tried Win 7 System restore.

That looked good but on reboot after restore AVAST 8 (version before 2014) wouldn't load.  Forced it to load it didn't know of license.  Couldn't assept license file.

Beans on the works and did full OS image restore to night before AVAST 2014 was installed.

All is well now.  PLEASE please please AVAST put out a new release and make it clear you ditched this buggy 2014 firewall and went back to the previous version!

I have been a 3 PC "IS" license owner (multiyears at a time) for many years now and always thought buying that was a no-brainer.  If you can't get this mess in order soon I will have to start researching other Antivirus software.

I have disabled firewall because it doesn´t work correctly.

Avast support has told me that i could create new group for my smb rules nut i don´t know how.

Somehow knows how can i do it?

SMB traffic uses port 445 (TCP & UDP) and/or ports 135 through 139 (TCP & UDP)

Protocol is SMB (of course)

I had the same issue with IS 2014, my solution was uninstalling the crappy firewall and re-enabling the Window's default one. No program should break basic functions like private network file sharing...

Have dealt with this issue on several small business networks in the last few days.  All were peer networks with a Win7 pro machine holding a database for some specialized application, or quickbooks, or files, etc.  These networks and their sharing have been stable for a very long time.  Avast 2014 update to file server prevented sharing - couldn't even ping the server in all cases.  Tried many variations of settings described here and elsewhere.  No good.  The only solution was to uninstall (aswclear in 2 cases) Avast and put Free version back in place of IS.  Everything worked immediately after that.

Did not help me, but maybe there's a slim chance it will help someone else:

**removed quote, settings were not the issue. Update to Version 2014.9.0.2007 fixed it**
