Avast free antivirus 2014 incompatible with Windows 8.1 Pro
« on: October 18, 2013, 07:58:20 AM »
Yesterday i've upgraded my Windows to 8.1 pro.

The update when oke, but after the update i saw that Avast free antivirus somehow was removed from my pc.

I've tried to install it again but it doesn't work.

It keeps coming back with: Failed to load language dll [1033\UILangRes.dll]

I installed the dutch language.

I've tried over and over again, removing avast using the ASWClear program in safe mode. Built-in installer doesn't work.

The english version does open but can't connect.
Updating or repairing the program through the settings screen doesn't work because somehow Avast can't find an internet connection and
can't get passed port 8080
(which is open)

Anyone any ideas?

I'm using avast since the old version 3 almost a decade ago and i would be sad if i'm forced to start using an other program.

Cheers!

Davy

If you are using a 2014 edition, you should use avastclear, not aswclear.

Eddy,

Removing Avast with avastclear makes no differences...

Even tried to run the setup as administrator.

It keeps coming back with: Failed to load language dll [1033\UILangRes.dll]

Tried to install the trial version of internet security but it also fails.

Tried to repair and update the program using the built-in installer. The update failed.

Keeps coming back with the message that server.def.vpx has an invalid signature

This is the log:

Ok, let me say that I am not sure about this.
"Running module version: '9.0.2006.159"
I believe the version should be 9.0.2006.160

"Load: file 'servers.def' does not exist"
The file should be in the avast\setup folder. Please check if it is there.

Also check if avast\1033\UILangRes.dll exists.

Let's hope that someone from avast steps in and looks into it.

Guys, could you give a look at Windows Support community? There are a LOT of people complaining of a malfunctioning windows 8.1 update, me included. I just make a quick video. There are more details in the description
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZmhCYbLpIs

The thing is, I started asking some questions and turns out people were using Avast!

I managed to boot in Security Mode and just realized that avast has disappeared from the computer! Just a few reg files I could find with CCleaner.

I could definetly use some help here!

It is not just the combination of Windows 8(.1) and avast that has problems.
Many people have all kinds of problems with the 8.1 update, avast users as well as people who are using another av.
I run a small "computer service shop" and as of this morning (when the 8.1 update was released for my country), the phone hasn't been quiet.
It looks like the update is introducing more bugs than fixes.

I know for sure the people from avast (and other vendors) are already looking into it.
So let us have patience and wait to see what they come up with.

That's true....

My Windows Media Player is also corrupted since the update.

It's a lot of work but I've decided that I'm going to do a clean fresh install of w8 pro.
Tried to install an image I've made last month but even that doesn't work...

Microsoft made a crappy update that's for sure and once installed you can't go back...

For instance after the update to 8.1 Comodo Firewall was almost gone, just some registry entries left. Didn't notice it at first until a meassage appeared urging me to activate Defender >:( :o. Luckily a re-install of Comodo went without problems. No such luck with Avast (v8 and v9).

If you ran Windows 8.1 Preview and upgraded to Windows 8.1 RTM, you'll most likely have lots of software not being properly installed anymore. This was repeated everywhere on websites offering info on the preview versions.

My Avast 2014 completely survived the official store update from Win8 to Win8.1 yesterday. Don't know if it's only me!

For the record, I have AIS 9.0.2006 on 8.1 Pro Preview with no ongoing issues.

My brother seems to have no problems with v9 after the Windows 8.1 update. But he runs the standard Home Edition.
I upgraded from vanilla 8.0 Pro with the official store update.

I did a complete fresh new install today of Windows 8 Pro.

Installed AV9 (2014) and it runs like a charm...

In the end i believe the problem lies with Microsoft and a crappy brute force update....

i had all sorts of problems but now everything is fixed and i will stay with W8 pro instead of W8.1 pro
