'A special tool has been found'?
« on: October 19, 2013, 12:30:24 AM »
Avast Free Antivirus

Program Version 2014.9.0.2006
Virus definitions version 131018-0

i've come accross an odd thing. in the tools, Browser cleanup. everytime i click on this i get the message:

'Avast!

A special tool has been found on your computer
which prevents avast! Browser Cleanup from
properly listing and removing your browser add-ons.
If this tool is not removed, the results of avast!
Browser Cleanup might be unreliable.

Do you want to completly remove this tool
(recommended)?'

there is absolutly no mention of what this 'special tool' is, so i'm a little reluctant to remove something without even knowing what i'm removing.

I got that alert too. I click it thinking it will show me what tool it was about but it just went to Browser cleanup window. I checked all avast! logs, Comodo logs, and Windows logs and I could not find anything that was detected or uninstalled.

I can not tell you to go ahead because I have no idea what went on. I can tell you that I have not had anything wrong in my system though.

It's most probably Super anti Spyware,Spyware Blaster or Spy-bot,or any similar application on your pc, that is protecting your browsers from being manipulated by any other application.
Check settings in any of these applications you might have, for Host file protection and/or Browser protection

Thanks for the link Asyn.

Still I could not find anything deactivated or uninstalled in my system. Nothing in my browser addon, SpywareBlaster, or Winpatrol. As I said Comodo did not detected any change, and I have it setup in paranoid mode. If any program tries to change another, it will alert me.

1. You're welcome Hernan.
2. You would have to ask Thomas (tosal) about further details.

Thanks again. Let's see. I am inno hurry. Everything seems to be working as it should be. Well besides the slow shutdown times of course.
