I upgraded a Toshiba labtop running Win 7 Home to Avast 9.0.2006 on 10/17.
On 10/18, Family Tree Maker 2010 would not display its UI. The program would launch, show up in Task Manager, but would not display.
This worked fine using Avast 8.0.1497.
After turning off a shield at a time, I discovered that FTM 2010 would work with the File System Shield turned off, which was an undesireable workaround.
I was finally able to get FTM 2010 to work with all shields turned on by unchecking the DeepScreen option.
I noticed another poster reported a similar issue with DeepScreen.
So I will second his/her observation that DeepScreen is causing some programs not to run correctly.
