On my laptop:
1) I have upgraded the system from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1
2) I have installed the last version of Avast Internet Security (Avast IS 2014.9.2006)
3) I have installed Wuala (secure cloud storage, http://www.wuala.com) which has installed Java Rubtime 32 bits (although my PC is a 64 bits system, Wuala requires Java 32 bits).
NB: Wuala.exe is installed in the following directory: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Wuala\Wuala.exe

When I run Wuala:
1) Wuala, after a long time, writes that it can't access the Internet
2) Avast IS doesn't creating any Firewall rule for this application
3) The log of the Firewall doesn't show any message indicating that an application has been stopped.

Note that Wuala works fine if I disable the Firewall agent for a while (all other agents being active).

Any idea?

Philippe

FAQ page http://www.wuala.com/en/support/faq/c/19
states that

"Which ports are used by Wuala?
UDP: none
TCP: 80, 443, 38088
Note: It is sufficient if one port of them is open
"

But whatever I try using this information doen't give any resullt :(

Note it seems Wuala ports and protocole have evolved over time (threads posted a couple of years ago mention for instance UDP rules).

Hello,

same problem with me. There was no problem by using windows 8 and the "old" AIS suite.

A solution would be fine.

I have the same problem.
After upgrading to Windows 8.1 and reinstalling the latest Avast IS, Wuala is simply unable to connect until I temporarily disable the Avast firewall.
Even if I explicitly add wide open TCP/UDP application rules for wuala.exe in the Avast firewall, it still doesn't work.
This blocked traffic doesn't even appear anywhere in the Avast logs... and yet it is clearly Avast that is blocking it.

If I remove all wuala.exe rule and reconfigure Avast to prompt me for new applications, then I try to run Wuala... I am not prompted by Avast.  It is as though Avast is blocking traffic that it isn't even seeing/detecting.

(FYI - The Windows Firewall doesn't seem to have any influence on this issue.  Whether I turn it on or not, the symptoms remain the same.  Only disabling Avast allows Wuala to work.)

Suggestions?  This makes Wuala almost unusable with the latest Avast IS.

No ideas until yet?

My solution:
Kaspersky Internet Security.
At the moment I am using a 30 days trial licence of Kapsersky IS. It works fine. That means there are 29 days left for avast ....
If there will be no solution I have to say good by to avast unless there are more than 5 month left of the payed avast licenced period.

I have exactly the same problem as Philippe (the first in this thread) describes.

I use Avast Premier Version 2014.9.0.2007 and Wuala does not work anymore, disabling all shields makes Wuala work agian. I presume Avast will work on a fast solution, it would be very bad to switch antivirus because of this, i paid money for this version!

I have started a new discussion within the German forum.
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=138426.0

At the moment a work around is
- deactivate firewall before starting wuala (beware of outostart ;) )
- start wuala
- activate firewall
> both wuala and avast! IS are working

This can not be the "final" solution but it helps at the moment.

Version 2014.9.0.2008 (released today, November 12th) still doesn't solve the problem.
At least, not as far as I can see...

Also new version of Wuala does not solve the problem. I took me another 15 minutes to test it.

The problem starts already when wuala is started, it takes minutes before the program runs. Afte deinstall of Avast the Wuala needs a few seconds to start. So it looks like more than only the firewall, there is really a conflict, and it all started after implementing Windows 8.1

I have a official ticket running with Avast for this, the asked me to install the new Avast today (....2008), but nothing has changed.
