Just shut it fast.
Sorry to be the stupid guy here... but what is shutting down fast? A 'tweaked' shut down (changing some registry keys, etc.)?
Do we have to change anything in normal shut down of Windows?

I've had the problem enough where it is kind of "embarassing" for me to be talking up how great avast is and then on a shut down it does this crash.  However it doesn't happen very often as everyone says.

bob,

it is such a rare occurence that it isn't an issue.  So I haven't even bothered to look at your fix, I just wanted to put my name on the "petition" as one having this problem as well.

Please note, it's NOT my fix. It wasn't a major issue for me either but since the fix was available, I tried it and it worked for me.
I haven't had another ashServ crash since.

Same here. The fix worked and the problem has not recurred since. Perhaps it only works for us Bobs?javascript:replaceText(' :)', document.postmodify.message);

I downloaded and installed the home version and have recently started experiencing crashes for ashWebSv.exe.

Are we talking of the same executable?

I use Win XP professional and the crashes have been automatically reported to Microsoft whenever I have been connected to the internet!

Should I report the next crash here too?

Can you see if this link could help you on understanding webshield working? http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=1647.msg100190#msg100190
FAQ about WebShield: http://www.avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html#idt_6874
WebShield incompatibilites are related to any application that uses the HTTP port (80) to route some non-HTTP (or partially-HTTP) data (including custom HTTP commands etc). See Vlk's explanation here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=11997.msg101376#msg101376

Did you allow ashWebSv.exe to connect the Internet into your firewall settings?
If you disable the Web Shield provider (into avast On-access providers settings) will you be allowed to connect the Internet?

Mukulmadan, ashWebSv.exe is not what this thread is about, but we are interrested in all crashes of course. Currently the windows error reporting page is out of order, so we can not download the crash reports from Microsoft. Could you please go to c:\program files\alwil software\avast4\data\log folder and zip and mail me couple of those UNPxxx and UNPxxx.MDMP files, that are created there on every crash? Thanks. Lukas.

not like that. just turn off your computer as usual after the system running for 2-3 hours. just shut it fast.
maybe i should try this changes untill next program update:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=11945.msg110789#msg110789
since i applied this changes, i got only once error.
thats cool 8)

Using Win2k Pro, ashWebSv.exe or ashServ.exe do not cause problems.
A lot of modules is loaded into RAM which are also loaded and used by other programs.

Assuming that Avast is at least partly C(..) programmed, there may occasionaly occur a memory conflict. This may be due to the compiler used by the Avast designers, the operating system itself or another program. I have seen such problems with Acrobat Reader 7 and some other qualified software. Usually nothing serious: some instruction on a specific memory location can't be read and the OS is not knocked out.

I'm afraid system crashes and RAM "tumors" (see the concerning thread), are due to malicious intruders, not yet detectable and penetrating the firewall when you open it (!).
As a matter of fact, I recently found a rootkit and its hidden generator because of the changes it tried (unsuccessfully) to make in Avast and the Sygate firewall. They were after my creditcard data and I don't even have one  ;D.

The virus did not succeed because all vulnerable files are protected and monitored for changes. There are many freeware programs giving this additional protection. Some of them malware themselves.

Привет!
Вообще, эту проблему я решил так, предварительно загрузившись (boot) с дискеты (a:).

  "delete   x:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\aswRdr.sys"

Видимо тобой была выполнена ручная переустановка программы антивируса :)
Почему так, объяснить не могу.

Regards! Generally, I solved this problem so, having preliminarily loaded (boot) diskettes (a:). "delete x:\.WINDOWS\.system32\.drivers\.aswRdr.sys" Apparently we executed the manual reinstallation of the program of antivirus Smiley why so, explain I cannot.
