[Question] The number of virus definitions has been reduced?

[AVAST 2014 FREE RTM]

We all know that the new installer has been reduced in size ,it is 81Mb only instead of 120MB.
But i have noticed that the number of virus definitions has been reduced to half.. why?

I think its because there is more streaming updates.   :)

Edit: I thought you was talking about something else..  Avast did something like this a few years back http://blog.avast.com/2010/09/06/spring-cleaning-in-our-virus-database/

The updates for 2014 are on a different release schedule than version 8 and are also better optimised.
