I thought you downloaded the User Manual for this scanner.

When saving a scan you should have options as to what file format to save it as and large colour scans will be MBs unless you reduce the resolution/colour depth, etc.

What are you using when opening it and just how big is it.

Yes David I did download the sort of manual it really doesn't say a lot, it doesn't matter what size the original picture is it's always saved larger than printed, you have options for Tiff, bitmap, jpg so I set it to jpg, have no idea what resolution to set it to and the manual is not really a lot of help.... ::)

Even at 100% of scan it should be no bigger than A4 try it at 800x600 to see if it is more manageable and increase the size to suit your needs.

My 17" TFT has a screen resolution of 1280X1024 pixels, now that is huge well over A4 size check your screen resolution, hold up a piece of A4 and it will give you an ides of what the resolution should be.

Can your Imaging software not do an image capture, import using a twain device (e.g. your scanner), that should give you more control once you have imported the data.

I'm shutting down for the night now, that should give you something to be getting on with.

I just give up, have no idea where to look for settings, it doesn't really help that I don't understand resolutions, will just have to scan and print as I go along....... :(

Check out the web site and see if you can find any reference to settings/resolution for your scanner in the support section or forum if they have one.

Discovered that if I click on file in the scanwise program it  will let you alter the dpi, it was originally set to 1200dpi, I altered it to 300dpi and it brought the saved file down to 267kb instead of 6.3mb still don't understand it .....but it works anywway.... ;D ;D

Next question (I can hear you all groaning)  do I leave it at 300dpi to print or save? as it was printing ok at 1200dpi..... ???

You can print an image you saved at 1200 dpi, but your printer is unlikely to be able to print to that quality, I doubt you would notice the difference in print quality if you printed at 600 dpi or 1200 dpi unless your printer is using specialist paper.

For bog standard paper 300 dpi is adequate, less if it is for draft quality. Check out your printer quality settings, to get an idea.
