Avast 2014 - Blocks Java Apps
« on: October 23, 2013, 09:58:57 AM »
Hello!

After upgrading to Avast 2014 i found that my favorite apps are blocked! The list includes:
1) Vuze - http://www.vuze.com/ - does not start until both webshield and firewall are down
2) myDlink - survalience cam cloud service mydlink.com based on java applet probably blocked by firewall
3) I2P - http://www.i2p2.de/ after upgrade does not start even with all shelds down
4) my web banking service uses java applet too = (

Not Java app TOR - https://www.torproject.org/ - probably i ruined it after i tried to fix situation with java = )

As i found from this forum problems may be caused by ip6 wich is not fully supported by isp`s here in Russia.

I thought that upgrades are made to impruve my user expireence not to destroy all the tings i love and get used to! Please do someting ASAP - i payed for my subscription to prevent problems not to get ones!

The good thing about the upgrade - Save Zone browser works again. Previously it was freezing all activity an several important sites. But when i tryed to fix things with java i found that your own safezone browser was blocked by your firewall several times and thats really odd because i visited completely save web sites. = /

So will those issues be fixed, or a i have to downgrade to previouse version somehow, or i can get my money back and find another payed antivirus?

Correct ashWebSv.dll version 9.0.2006.160 for the initiali release of avast 2014! Fixes mostly JAVA problems with IPv6 traffic.

That patch did something all-right. It made just about all my problems WORSE!

Let me put it this way. Google Android Studio at least worked with the Firewall disabled before applying the patch. (The FW apparently, silently, blocks Java from communicating on the loopback device (127.0.0.1). Nothing I've done have been able to fix that.
After the fix, I can't even do THAT.
How do I revert the change?

And yes. I followed the instructions.

Restarted the PC and tried again. Nothing I do now will get my Android Studio to be able to compile my project.

I NEED a rollback patch of that change ASAP!

A complete reinstall of my Studio resolved the immediate issue, but only if I kill the  Firewall. For the time being I have disabled the Avast 9 Firewall, permanently.
Some things work faster, sadly Java apps are now slower on networking. MUCH slower.

I'd like to have this issue escalated to critical. It is a showstopper, and may force me to remove Avast entirely should it persist.

Some firewall issues, if I`m not wrong, will be addressed in the following week upgrade. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Some inconvenience.
I wasted days trying to figure this out. Only by a process of elimination, and dumb luck, did I get clued in on the fact that the Avast Firewall was blocking internal communication between processes on the local host!

DAYS!  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Have a look at this topic (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=137578.0), I have posted various bugs (Including this Java one), and even stated that Avast 2014 is a complete failure. The more people that comment, the more likely Avast will do anything about it.

The Java localhost communication blocking is gone.
IMHO that was an issue that should NEVER have happened >:( , and it seriously makes me reconsider Avast as a future product, once the next renewal comes around. If they can let something this major get through their QA, I hardly dare think what other major bugs is in the product, just waiting to bite me in the private parts.

!2P was spotty in Avast 8 as well if I recall, and I never managed to resolve that issue, and changed to L2TP/IPSec for my VPN connections, which does work.

RETRACTION! The 2014.9.0.2007 update does NOT resolve the issue in Google Android Studio!!!
