Set Avast to automaticly delete infected email
« on: June 16, 2005, 02:18:24 AM »
Hi,

I'm using Outlook 2003

How can I setup avast to automaticly delete infected emails?

The option is checked to "Discard it unconditionally", and to use "Silent Mode"

What else is needed?

Thanks,
John

You have the right settings in order to delete immediately the infected emails. The risk
is that some false detection can delete a regular mail from your contacts. False alarm are not excluded.

ADDED: I suggest to save the suspected emails in a folder (you can choose it) and run the manual scanning.

The problem is that every time I recieve an email with a virus sirens go off and the Avast thing appears asking me what to do.

is there anyway to fix that?

Thanks,
John

With Outlook seems to have a problem with the Silent Mode  :'(

With other email clients:
Click on Internet Mail and then on Customize.
Go to Advanced tab and select Silent Mode and the default answer No. This will send the file (email) to Chest.

Maybe Tech is right, but I have no problems. Have you checked also the heuristic "silent mode"?

That's too bad, because I get a lot of infected email and having to click for each one is no good.

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

Have a look here http://www.heffy.com/spam_virus.htm.

I implemented this, and it works great. For additional support for things like Gmail, Hotmail and many others see: http://forum.poptray.org/viewtopic.php?t=755&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=40

The whole implementation as descried also marks Spam, but if you don't need this a see no reason why you can't leave out the K9 part and just use PopTray to delete all infected mail from the server

It is a bit of work to set up but it works.
Hope this helps.
