@ BernieOn win8, if you update to windows 8.1, it will remove avast 8, so your position is unchanged, looking for an AV.
After so long I would certainly persevere for a little longer.
Personally I wouldn't use Revo but the avast uninstall utility, after all who better to know the program than the developers.
It looks like the
http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility link will only serve up avastclear.exe, and not the earlier version. The idea of the avast uninstall utility was that it was able to uninstall all avast programs.
Once you have downloaded the program and uninstall utility:
- 1. Now uninstall avast! - using add remove programs, if you can't do that start from the next step, reboot.
- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, it will request it be run from safe mode (and will handle the boot into safe mode), first for 8.x if previously installed and then for 9.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.
- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
Note: save the copy of avastclear.exe so it can be reused as some users are reporting that after running it, it is self-deleting.
