I also have this problem too. The update to 2014.9.0.2011 this morning didn't fix the problem. I receive IE crashes in msvcr110.dll before the update with the avast!Online Security toolbar, after the update it crash less frequently (although it still crashes 3 times within 3 minutes) and changed to this:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: iexplore.exe
Application Version: 11.0.9600.16428
Application Timestamp: 525b664c
Fault Module Name: gdiplus.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.18120
Fault Module Timestamp: 515bb50a
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 00042882
There are crashes immediately when I launch IE and before it even get to my homepage!
See if the following helps you fix your problem with gdiplus.dll :
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/gdiplus-dll-not-found-missing-error.htm
But gdiplus.dll is not missing in the folder

. The crash always happen when new IE windows popup. I am sure it is related to avast because I got a MSVCR110.dll crash between the gdiplus.dll crashes when I open a page, this is the log from the event viewer:
Faulting application name: iexplore.exe, version: 11.0.9600.16428, time stamp: 0x525b664c
