Only use Internet Explorer on all my PC's here, will disable web protection, til it's fixed, and surf cautiously til then.

Only about 4 machines to fix up here

As I stated in my initial post
"All addons/accelerators etc disabled"; all includes avast's plugins

Avast 2014 kills vanilla IE8 64bit; IE8 32bit works fine

Just a quick note, I'm getting calls from my friends today who are running avast.  WebRep (Avast! online security) has broken the Internet Explorer.  Disabling the AVAST addons fixes IE.  Chrome installed on the same computer running the addon works fine.  Seemed to have started late Sunday morning or early afternoon.

Also worth noting, on my i7-2xxx, if I wait for and don't touch IE, it does eventually open.  When I look at the toolbars section, it notes that the Avast addon took 57.06 seconds to open.  Maybe this addon does a "phone home", and something is wrong with Avast's servers?  Weird Chrome still works.  Disabled for now within IE

I've had the same issues as well under Win7 pro.  I just put a fresh install of avast 2014 as my avast 8 quit updating today.  IE was taking forever to start up.   I found on those avast add ons,  I only needed to disable the 2 32-bit ones in IE.  I left the 64 bits on and my IE 10 works fine now (using 64 bit windows).    I'm on Firefox 24 and that wasn't affected by Avast

I am running 64-bit.  Like everyone else, my explore just stopped working today.  I found this simple instruction video to reset Internet Explorer.  It worked quick and easy and it wipes away the extensions that might be a problem.

Runnining Win 7 64 bit - IE10 Hangs and lags. Avast icon in Toolbar is greyed out. Disabling avast! Online Security add-on only is the work around. Also, using InPrivate Browsing works.  Pleas fix this. Chrome working fine.

IE 10/11 crashes on start up, had to access "manage addons" through control panel.    Disabling addons made no difference, IE still crashes on startup.    Turning off "ALL" avast shields made no difference, IE still crashes.   Restarted computer, all addons still disabled, all shields still down, IE crashes on startup.

Uninstall Avast, IE works

Sorry to say Avast team, you've really "screwed the pooch" this time.

I've had no problems running avast! 2014 with IE11. I do however disable every plugin I encounter, before they're activated.

I'm facing the same problems as Bazz67 and OP (BEX64 Error), but only on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit laptop.
On both other 2 PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit IE works fine.
Tried downgrading IE all the way to IE8 with no luck.
All addons are disabled etc...

Using 2014.9.0.2006.

Edit: using IE10 on Win7 SP1 (updated with windows update)

I am running the 32-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate as well. No problems on my side with IE11.

Up dated program last night, Same here :'( :(, up date said everything installed OK and NO bad extensions found? IE was working But today IE won't work, tried disabling avast add on didn't do anything. IE opens and shows as running in TM but as soon as I click a link/website - NOTHING! NOT RESPONDING! - Freezes -  have to shut it down from TM. Firefox is working fine. Avast links in help/pop up's not working either.

How do I uninstall last up date??????? without unistalling Avast completely

UPdate: working fine now at least for the moment ;D. disabled, enabled and disabled add on's again!

FYI: I called Avast support  :-X don't waste your time! Never mentioned the add on's poked around my computer and when nothing on IE worked all they wanted to do was sell me the support plan, said there was nothing wrong with Avast update and it was my computer's programs causing the issue and I needed a complete and though evaluation of my O/S. :P

I still haven't seen Avast admit there is a problem. Is this normal?

As a rule No. Forum is your best and quickest way to resolve issues. Moderators are usually on top of any new issues and will have work-a-rounds. Was a bit surprised myself about this issue on the program update, been using Avast free for many years and it's probably one of the best out there vs any other paid anti-virus programs.

The other problem is that this seems to have started over the weekend when you're dealing with a skeleton crew.
