Generally new versions are there to either add features or fix bugs. So yes they're working on a version (2009) to fix certain current bugs. A beta is available for those who want to test it. Beta =/= unreliable per se. It just means that it hasn't been fully tested yet. Before a version leaves pre-alpha or alpha stadium it still must pass some standard quality checks though.

If removing the online security browser plugin does not help and you refuse to use a beta version there is only one option left; waiting for the new version with fixes to leave the Beta status and be released.

And may we ask what those suggestions were?
The first one was to shut down the firewall - but I use Windows Firewall.
The second was to delete the add-ons in IE, but that made no difference eather.
The third was to remova Avast completely with a removal program and re-install, but that gave the exact same problem again.

That is what I am doing. ;)

Avast 2014.9.0.2008 seems to work fine with IE 11 on a Windows 7x64 computer with a mobile connection (GMS modem - two different modems and internet service providers) but not at all if the connection is via a ADSL modem (LAN).   The "Use automatic configuration script" - box is empty.

Same issue (StackHash_6c79) with IE8 x64 under Windows 7 x64. Avast version 2014.9.0.2008, defs current up to today's date.

I'm using IE8 x86 for the time being and will do so until this is either fixed or my subscription runs out in 91 days. After that, I'll look to use an alternative if this isn't fixed.

I hope this may help someone who, like me, was hoping to resolve this issue with the latest online update.....
Just in case anyone with (for example) XP 64bit is thinking of using the 'Update Program' interface ......  You may want to be VERY wary!
I've just experienced exactly the same problem with this particular online update as with the beta program recommended to me by support several days ago. i.e. it trashed my windows system (no log-on screen). So I presume it's probably the very same build as the beta, or very close to it.
Consequently, with my third reinstall of windows in 60 or more days, coupled with amateurish avast support; very poor communication skills; finding the suport package contained 600 pages of personal banking information/financial institutions visited/online purchasing details etc.... and all this just to cure the original and current problem of IE crashing repeatedly - I'm looking for a better product and better service from a company that at least shows some interest.
Any recomendatios anyone? ( I've never had these problems with Norton in over a decade or so, but it doesn't support 64bit XP.)

(Oh, and just in case the unhelpful 'anti-XP/IE8' brigade are tempted to jump into the discussion again ... many hundreds of my customers use the aforesaid OS and browser - so I need to do so too.)
Thanks to all for contributing. I hope you don't have to experience any of the above.

See if the latest beta that was just released is of any help to you.

Thank you kindly Bob.
Not to sound ungrateful - because I really appreciate the forum folk  - they provide better insight and unpaid amateur assistance than the fully-paid, so-called 'professionals'.
But if the beta just a couple of days ago destroyed windows, and then today's validated and authorised program update did the very same thing - you can imagine I'm not too keen to risk a fourth windows re-installation on yet another unproven beta issued the same day.
I think I'll sleep on it.

Hmmm.  Haven't heard from the OP lately.
What's up doc?

Further to my posting on December 13.

Today, I tested my Acer Aspire 5560G connecting it again to an ADSL modem.  InternetExplorer 11 did not want to cooperate, did not connect to any site irrespective of various changes in the internet options and/or Avast.   Yet, Comodo Dragon (~ Google Chrome) functioned perfectly.
My laptop (x64) runs Windows 7 sp1 and Avast 2014.9.0.2011 and last week I installed Comodo 6.3. the latter including antivirus, firewall.
In this setup, IE 11 works beautifully via a mobile connection (GSM modem) both before and after the installation of Comodo.

I have same issue except with a twist.... I can run IE 11 at the office with Avast 2014.9.0.2011 but at home it will not run.  Interestingly, a few days ago I installed an update of Avast and then IE worked on home wifi.... until I rebooted and got a message from Avast to 'click here to finish updating Avast Internet Security'... then it stopped working on home wifi again.  As a note, I am writing this post from my office wifi with IE 11 with Avast running.  As soon as I go home again it will undoubtedly stop running.

I am not sure if this thread is the most recent on this subject, but I must report I have found a problem with Avast 2014 (9.0.211) with IE11 under Win 8.1. on a new computer. I have had to remove the add-on using IE Tools\Manage Add-Ons. With Avast add-on disabled IE11 then works fine.

FYI Firefox is my default browser and that has been OK. Only problem with IE11.

Is this a problem that Avast are investigating, or what?

Ed

PS: I saw this in the release note for version 9.0.211

"Known issues:

AOS plugin doesn´t work with "Enhanced Protected Mode" enabled in IE 11"

So I disabled Enhanced Protected Mode in IE11, re-enabled Avast Add-On. No Joy: IE still fails with Avast Add-On enabled. So back to Avast Add-On being disabled, which I do not like. However, does the quote above imply Avast recognise there is a problem i.e. Known Issue. I await a fix. If too long coming I will abandon Avast.

I also have this problem too. The update to 2014.9.0.2011 this morning didn't fix the problem. I receive IE crashes in msvcr110.dll before the update with the avast!Online Security toolbar, after the update it crash less frequently (although it still crashes 3 times within 3 minutes) and changed to this:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: iexplore.exe
Application Version: 11.0.9600.16428
Application Timestamp: 525b664c
Fault Module Name: gdiplus.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.18120
Fault Module Timestamp: 515bb50a
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 00042882

There are crashes immediately when I launch IE and before it even get to my homepage!

But gdiplus.dll is not missing in the folder ??? . The crash always happen when new IE windows popup. I am sure it is related to avast because I got a MSVCR110.dll crash between the gdiplus.dll crashes when I open a page, this is the log from the event viewer:
Faulting application name: iexplore.exe, version: 11.0.9600.16428, time stamp: 0x525b664c
Faulting module name: MSVCR110.dll, version: 11.0.51106.1, time stamp: 0x5098858e
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00012b8a
Faulting process id: 0x20c
Faulting application start time: 0x01cf0a2858735627
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_avast.vc110.crt_2036b14a11e83e4a_11.0.60610.1_none_1d37a43bbfe1dc9c\MSVCR110.dll

Notice the fault module path have mentioned aomething about avast.

1. Have you turned off the Protected Mode in IE ?? You can't use the avast! Online Security plugin unless the Windows protection mode iff off.
2. Have you tried disabling the avast! Online Security Module in the browser to eliminate it as the cause of your problem ???

Bob: See my previous post. In my experience it makes no difference turning off Enhanced Protection Mode. IE11 does not work if you do that, only when you disable the Avast browser Add-On in IE11.
