zip archives scaning
« on: October 09, 2003, 03:38:24 PM »
Reading the description of avast4 home edition way of working, i didn't find any information about scaning of zip archives and would simply be sure that the antivirus does effectively scan zip archives and when (during download or is it necessary to ask for it manually afterward?).

Thanks in advance for a simple response

scandisk ???

What's new in avast! version 4
An important improvement is the support for new archives. avast! fully supports the following archives now: ZIP, ARJ, RAR, MIME (e.i. binhex, base64, uuencode etc.), CAB, TAR, GZIP, including the SFX variants (i.e. executable files containing given archives). The new kernel is able to scan alternative streams on NTFS partitions as well.

Big care was taken to make sure that files of arbitrary length can be tested - avast! internally uses 64-bit numbers for any file sizes, i.e. the file size is not limited to 2 or 4 GB, respectively.

What's new in avast! version 4.1

Support for new archives and packers
The scanning engine of avast! 4.1 adds support for a new set of file archivers and packers of executable files. Relatitely wide archive support of avast! 4.0 was extended with new support for ACE, ARC, ZOO, BZIP2 a Win32 EXE packers UPX, PeShield, PeProtect, AsPack. A change has been also made to the CAB unpacker which should now be considerably faster and which is now available even in the Home Edition.

Minacross/VLK

Scandisk said a SIMPLE exlanation. hahahaha  The highly technical stuff is all well and good, but I think we need to let Scandisk know that if already using AVAST, it has to be set to check zip archives from the User Interface.

Hate to be picky, but I know how you guys love the intricate explanations.  hahaha

SCANDISK,

No, you do not need to ask for any update manually.
You can set Avast to download both database and program updates automatically.  It's one of the best Avast features....troublefree updating.
(Well...of late anyway. )

If you haven't downloaded AVAST yet....do so.
You won't be dissapointed in the HOME version( 4.1.280)
Good luck
Techie ;D
