WTFNow?! MetroUI!?!
« on: October 28, 2013, 09:44:48 PM »
How on earth do i get rid of the black and gray and orange 2d metro UI??

I uninstalled Avast to try to get rid of the "spam block toolbar" that Avast managed to install into my Outlook without my permission (other posts on this issue are months back in this forum) as I was instructed to do by avast support.  Then I reinstalled from a fresh download and I got this HORRIBLE ugly interface.  Cant find half of what I used to see here either.  This is STUPID!  Just like Win8 makes computer users feel stupid, Avast has followed suit?

Option 1..Revert back to version8.
Option 2.Make your settings and thats it,you need not look at the GUI again.
Option 3.use an alternative av.

Version 9 interface is not going to change so choose an option.

Bye.

I'm a paid customer - where can I get version 8?
metro is offensive to my mind, spirit and eyeballs.  It's an afront to computing.  1998 called and wants their UI back.

- You  could have read before installing
- You can ofcourse disable the mail shield
- You can ofcourse use another email client.

Surprise, a lot of things have changed for the better. Some things have been "integrated" into others. Take a little time to browse through the new settings and learn about them.

Um, no. An UPDATE (automatic sort) did it to me - I have been running avast for 7 or 8 years now... disabling mail shield has no impact. and following support's instructions to uninstall and re-install did not work.

I bet you mourn for your Nintendo64 games.  because flat and plain and monochrome is what Metro is.  It's like taking a 1000 computer with dual video cards and giving you PONG with a touch screen.

Integrated means COMBINED, and COMBINED means harder to have granular control and/or reporting over.  Meh.

Um, yes. You could have read before installing the update.

"Combined" doesn't mean harder to control. That depends on the options/settings that are available.

The protection level is the same.
The communication between modules are faster and more transparent for the user.
New GUI... Maybe you should have voted in the beta phase :)

I look at the UI to set it up, and to check it every couple of days.
SO -
I need a UI that is useable.  I'm back on 7.0.1500!  The last version that had a navigable and useable interface where I could monitor separately the activity of each shield!!

And guess what - in rolling back, it finally fixed the "antispam toolbar" that misteriously appeared on my Outlook interface during a verison 8.x automatic update.

Auto updates of the PROGRAM are now disabled.
If the people at AVAST want people to continue to promote and use their program, they need to ditch the guy who programmed v9 UI (I think Win8 has about the same market penetration as XP now, a year later??) and understand that they just need maybe a "simple" and Advanced UI selection, giving the power users access like the v7 UI has.

Thanks for playing.

Oh and as to voting in the beta - I work 2 jobs and don't have time to beta test AV software... and I don't visit these forums unless and until Avast does something to aggravate me.  So I didn't even know about the 'beta'.  If I didn't now they were going to change the UI, how could I have voted?? Hmm?

So, you are back to lesser protection.
Don't complain here if your system gets infected.

You can still monitor the shield activity in version 9 (2014)

The UI is perfectly usable, you only have to learn a bit about it.
Just like you need to do if you go from Windows XP to Windows 7/8.

We too... Most of us help the others for free. All of us receive avast! antivirus for free. And we're all free to disagree with the GUI guy.
I love the new interface :)

I would like to see the folks at Avast publish some real world tests showing the "better protection".
For all I could tell for the 3 days I had it, it was no faster - it was harder to see individual items and configuration options, though - because the gui sucks

Why would avast do so if there are a lot of independent organizations (like VB100) are already publishing tests?
You can also look at all the rewards that avast has received.

I've been recommending, and even reselling, avast for 7 years + now.
I know it's a good product.
But if you take a Corvette, and you put a Yugo body on it, people gonna think it's a Yugo...

You say VB100 published data? that compared Avast versions and their protection performance? do you have a link please?
