2 Blue A Balls
« on: October 06, 2003, 10:48:58 AM »
Hi all, any suggestions on how I can get rid of one of the blue ball icons on the taskbar? ( I seem to have managed to add an extra one )  Running Windows ME. & Avast 4.
It looks like one is for the old version & one for 4.1.268.
        Thanks in advance.

You have two (a)'s or an (a) and an (i)?

thanks for coming back Vlk, I have 2 A balls, if I hold the pointer over them one says," 4 providers total, 1 running"   the other one says" 5 providers total, 2 running."

Cool - double protection, right? ;D

Lol that looks real wild. You're running WinME, right?

What happens if you manipulate the providers from one of the icons - do the changes get reflected to the second one? Or are the two avast's really independent?

Thanks
Vlk

Vlk they seem to be independent, if I right click on one of them, then stop on access protection, I get an "enter password"screen, and it says wrong password. I did click on a few files in the Avast folder this afternoon, could I have installed it again (twice )

Normally it wouldn't start in two copies (even if you run it second time). So something is definitely wrong.

Does the problem persist even after reboot? Also, check msconfig - the startup programs page. Isn't ashServ.exe listed twice?

Hi Vlk, thanks for your help, and my apologies for loging out without notice last night , an emergency call came  in.  Panic over, only one blue A ball on the task bar after restart. Just goes to show, don't mess with it if you don't know what you are doing. Thanks again Vlk, I'll try not to waste your time again. ( no guarantee ) Dooley.

Vlk, this seemed a "new", absolutely "new" bug!!! Nothing posted before (at least, I didnĀ“t find it before...). Thanks Dooley for coming. Thanks Vlk for answers. Thanks God for no errors right now and avast! is working  ;D
